Jujube (Ziziphus jujuba, Seed)

The seed of the fruit is commonly used in remedies for insomnia and to alleviate anxiety. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is a key ingredient in sedative formulas to nourish the heart and calm the liver. The sedative effect of Jujube likely comes from multiple constituents including triterpenes known as jujubosides.

Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus, Mycelia)

L-Tryptophan (Tryptophan)

Rehmannia (Rehmannia glutinosa, Root)

This herb has the function of tonifying the Blood and Yin, deficiencies of which are a common reason for insomnia in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is used to relieve anxiety and nervous exhaustion.

Research has demonstrated that Rehmannia inhibits metabolism of cortisol by reducing the suppressive effects of glucocorticoids on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Therefore, this herb reduces the physiological response to stress. This action is in part due to the constituents in the root called iridoid glycosides.

Fo-Ti (Reynoutria or Polygonum multiflora, Root)
